Application Engineer - Sandvik, Turku
Join us in building the future of electrified off-road machinery
Our mission is to advance the world through engineering. Are you passionate about electric powertrains and intelligent mobile machinery? Do you want to work hands-on with next-generation off-road vehicles in real-world conditions? If your answer is yes, this might be the perfect opportunity for you. Join Sandvik’s team of smart minds and help us build a more sustainable future.
This position is based at Sandvik's Load and Haul division headquarters in Turku, the global R&D and manufacturing hub for our underground mining loaders and dump trucks. While partial remote work is possible, regular presence in Turku and occasional travel, potentially to underground mines, is required.
Your role – Electric Powertrain at the Core of Heavy Machinery
As an Application Engineer in our Electric Powertrain Technology Team, you focus on the development of the electric powertrain for our large mobile machines. You create engineering specifications, define control algorithms, select power electronics components, and validate performance based on real-world measurement data.
You will work on a modular software architecture, specifically those related to the electric powertrain. These modules are developed using model-based design and interact with the broader system via defined interfaces, including software developed in C++ and Codesys.
Your key responsibilities
- Power electronics component dimensioning and selection for electric powertrain
- Develop and validate control algorithms for electric powertrains
- Model the electric powertrain system or its subsystems using MATLAB/Simulink
- Analyze test and field data to improve system performance and reliability
- Specify the functionality of electric and hybrid powertrain for heavy machinery
- Provide hands-on support for the prototype development and testing
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders
- Stay up to date with new technologies in electric mobility and off-highway electrification
What we expect from you
- A suitable degree in engineering, M.Sc. in Power Electronics preferred.
- Knowledge of full electric or hybrid machine, electric powertrain with embedded control systems, or inverter/motor controls are seen as a benefit.
- Experience in model-based development is highly valued
- Knowledge of mobile machinery, hydraulics, or CAN-based systems is an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, structured approach
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural, cross-functional teams
- Fluent in English (Finnish is an advantage)
- Willingness to travel occasionally, including to underground mine environments
What’s in it for you?
We offer you interesting tasks in our modern, continuously evolving, and international product development environment, as well as the opportunity to develop your own professional skills and career. In addition, we offer a multi-form and inclusive corporate culture focused on sustainable development, with values such as Curiosity, Responsibility, Customer Focus and Winning together.
